Aurora Aksnes was born June 15, 1996 in Stavanger Norway. The name she is most commonly used for her professional work is Aurora and occasionally stylized using uppercase letters as AURORA. Her debut E.P. Running with the Wolves by Decca Records was released on May 15th, 2015 it received a raving review from the music blogosphere as well as from the media. She has recorded several high-profile covers, such as Half the World Away (by Oasis) for the Christmas advert. Aurora Aksnes' earliest musical memories are of discovering a piano hidden in her attic and becoming fascinated with the sounds it created. Her parents May-Britt and Jan Oystein Aksnes encouraged her to take up music not as an occupation or pastime but to grow. In order to do so, she began writing music that was her own. She has cited renowned songwriters Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan as inspirations, and also a love for Bjork's style. She began performing her music in public when her mother said they could help people to not become famous through her music, but rather to help people see around them realize the importance of their work and how they can affect the world. The piano was her first instrument at the age of six, and began writing music at age nine. She didn't tell her family about it until the age of 14. Aurora wasn't a childhood dream. The actress claims that she likes writing songs. To her, music is one of the most efficient ways to communicate anything.
